Herbert was born in 1867. He was the son of William Attlesey and Flora Alice Crosier. Alternate mother: Elizabeth Osborne. The 1871 Census lists his mother as Elizabeth.

His third marriage was to Isabelle "Belle" Jeanette (Jack) Spellman. Daughter of Samuel Jack and Mary Donahue. The certificate lists his mother as Elizabeth Osborne.^[4]
