Naturalization as a Citizen

Date: 2 JUN 1924
Place: Lake Forest Park, Natick, Middlesex, Massachusetts
Source: #S37 Page: 2040569

Note

Note: Even though his petition for naturalization says that he entered the country on 14 July 1881, but according to the New York Passenger Lists, he came into the country on 18 July 1881. He arrived in New York, departed from Bremen, and sailed on the ship Donau. He is listed as being 22 years old, a farmer, and belonging to the country of Prussia.
According to his petition for naturalization, he served in the armed forces of the United State starting in January of 1882. On January 11, 1887, he reenlisted, and I have found records of continued reelistments up to the year 1909, but it appears that he retired from active service on 5 August 1909 at Fort Warren, MA. He retired as a commissary sergeant.
He was stationed at Boise Barracks in Idaho where he married his first wife, Ann Collins, in 1886. In Idaho they had Anna (Louise) (14 Dec 1886), Josephine (20 Apr 1888), and Lillian Marie (20 Nov 1890). Sometime between 1890 and 1892 they moved to Fort Wingate, New Mexico, where they had the youngest daughter Augustina? (Gussie) (24 May 1892). They moved to Fort Warren on Georges Island, Boston, Suffolk, MA, in 1904.
During the Spanish-American War, his cavalry company was assigned in Cuba, where we find him on the 1900 US Census. He was assigned there September 5, 1899. He was posted with his company, Company D in the US 2nd Cavalry, at Fort Hamilton in Matanzas, Cuba. During this time, his children lived in Kansas at Fort Riley.
Sometime afterwards he served in the Phillipines in the Civil War that took place there. It was here that he got his promotion to commissary sergeant.
In 1910 he can be found living in Peterborough, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. He is a farmer farming his own farm. He is also married to his second wife, Christine.
In 1920 he can be found living in Precinct 4, Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He is rooming with the John Bundt family. I have no evidence of a known relation to this family so far.
He became a naturalized citizen of the country he had served his whole life on 2 June 1924. He died later that same year.
