He was the son of Ira Austin and Pedda Everett.[1]
In 1850 he was living in Denmark, Lewis, New York.[3] The household included Ira Austin 49, Peggy (sic) Austin 52, Ira H Austin 20, Evanus Austin 12 and Peddy Ann Austin 14, all born in New York. Ira was a tailor, son Ira was a farmer.
He married first Clarinda Parsons.[1]
On 3 Aug 1853 Elias A Cook and Anna his wife and Ira Austin and Clarinda his wife of the town of Denmark, Lewis County, New York sold 61 acres in lot 97 town 4 in the township of West Turin to Amos Kentner of the town of West Turin, Lewis County for $300 via quit claim deed.[4]

Anna was a domestic; her parents were of foreign birth and she was not able to read and write.

In 1900 he was living in the town of Lowville, Lewis, New York.[12] The household included Ira Austin 70, wife Hannah Austin 66, son John Austin 29 and daughter Margaret E Austin 26. Ira and Hannah had been married 38 years. Hannah was the mother of 6 children, 5 living. Ira was a farmer and owned his farm subject to a mortgage. John was single and was a printer. Margaret was also single and had no children.

He is buried in Boonville Cemetery, Boonville, Oneida County, New York.[15]
