Avampato, 90, of Greensburg, went to be with our Lord and Savior Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 26, 1925, in Greensburg, a son of the late Carmel and Josephine (Manganello) Avampato. He was retired from Latrobe Steel and was a World War II veteran, having served with the Army. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Florence (Cammarata) Avampato, Nov. 19, 2013; and two sisters, Josephine Restivo and Sally Calabrese. He is survived by his son, Tim Avampato and wife, Sandra, of Murrysville; three daughters, Linda Carr and husband, Tom, of Greensburg, Diane Roberts and husband, Rich, of Greensburg, and Laura Sims and husband, Mike, of Knightdale, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Dan Carr, Justin Carr (Kelly), Juliana Carr, Derek Carr, Briana Carr, Megan Gretz (Adam), Natalie Roberts, Ashley Roberts (Bill Velez), Austin Avampato, Bryce Avampato, Steven Sims (Samara) and Michelle Ziegler (Ryan); two great-grandchildren, Meadow Velez and Zachary Ziegler; his sister-in-law, Virginia Cammarata, of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton St., Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Greensburg. Entombment will follow in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum, with military honors accorded by the VFW Post No. 33 Honor Guard, Greensburg. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Ridgeview Residential Care and the staff on 2-E at Westmoreland Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, co Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 1011 Mt. Pleasant Road, Greensburg, PA 15601. www.bachafh.com.
