Biography

Joseph was born in 1737. He was the son of Thomas Babb, Jr. and Sarah Foulk. He passed away in 1785 and is buried in the Babb-Kellet Family Cemetery, Laurens County, SC.

The following information is sourced from "Babb Familes of New England and Beyond"[1]:

Joseph Babb was the son of Thomas and Sarah (Foulk), born around 1740. He married "Mary" on 17 Sept 1761. [2] For this, Joseph was disowned by the Quakers for marrying out of unity.[3][4]

After the birth of their third son, (roughly 1766-1767) Joseph and Mary moved their family from Virginia to what was then the 96th District of Berekley County, South Carolina. His first cousins Mercer Babb and Margaret Babb Wadlington also moved here. Joseph sold his land in Frederick, Virginia to his brother Peter on 18 October 1768.

Joseph and Mary later moved again and settled into what is now Laurens County, SC.

At the time "Babb families of New England and beyond" was written, his date of death was still very uncertain. "Records of amounts paid to those furnishing supplies to the Continental Army show that Mary was a widow in 1781. (SC Archives, AA 216, page 2a Account 365-S Mary BABB)"

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

Babb-1917 and Babb-129 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates.

I do not understand why I am not being prompted to merge my Joseph Edwin Babb with Jessica West's Joseph Edwin Babb's profile. They are clearly the same person. I sent a request to be on her Trusted List so Joseph's father, Thomas Babb, could be set rather than making a new profile, because I was prompted to do that. This is why I have steered clear of WikiTree, but I genuinely hope I can get the hang of this. I wanted to continue adding people from my tree, but I guess this brings me to a forced stop. I look forward to understanding how this works! Thanks.

Hi Dana!

You do not have to be on a trusted list to add or link profiles. I will initiate merges for Nancy and Joseph. The easiest way I've found to prevent duplicates is to search the names and birthdates before creating a profile, and I am always surprised as what turns up!
