Marriage

Quaker Marriage Certificate of John Morgan and Lydia Babb in Kennett Monthly Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania on October 17, 1735.

Whereas John Morgan of the Township of Calne in ye County of Chester and Province of Pensilvania And Lydia Babb of Brandwine Hundred in ye County of Newcastle upon Delaware Having declared their intention of marriage with Each other before severall Mo's Meeting of the People Called Quakers and Center Meeting House in ye County of New Castle aforesd according to the good order used amonst them And they having Consent of parents and Relations Concernd : their sd Pro:spals of marriage as allowed of by the said Meetings. Now These are to Certifie that it may Concerns for the full accomplishing their sd Intentions ye Seventeenth day of ye Tenth month in the Year of Our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred & Thirty five The Said John Morgan and Lydia Babb Appeared in a publick Meeting of ye aforesd People as Newark Meeting House in the Hundred aforesd And the said John Morgan takeing sd Lydia Babb by the hand did in Solemn Manner openly Declare that he took her the said Lydia Babb to be his Wife Promiseing with ye Lords assistance to be unto her a faithfull and Loveing Husband untill death should Seperate then (or words to this Effect) Read then another in the same asembley the said Lydia Ball did in like manner Declare that she took him the sd John Morgan to be her husband promiseing with the Lords assistance to be unto him a faithfull and Loving wife untell death Should Seperate them Read moreover the sd John Morgan and Lydia Babb (the according to the Custom of marriage assuming the name of her Husband) did to these presents sett their hands John Morgan Lydia Morgan
