Gideon was born in 1757. He was the son of John Babcock and Jemima Reynolds. He married Hannah Brown. Their children are listed in "The Babcock Genealogy." [1] Children born South Kingston, R.I.;
He passed away in 1807. He was buried in a cherry coffin made by Job Townsend. A record of the town of Newport regarding the coffin of Gideon J. Babcock is dated March 17th, 1807. His spouse had died in 1805.
Gideon J. Babcock is mentioned in "Civil and Military List of Rhode Island" as a Justice of the Court/Peace in 1795,1797 and 1799 and possibly as a 2nd Major in the Militia of South Kingston. [2] Note : A Gideon Babcock is mentioned in the same record, but was a different person. In some cases it is hard to tell which was which.
This Gideon's DAR record indicates he died in South Kingston, but in Newport is also possible since he was buried there. [3]
