Joseph was born about 1756. He is the son of Carr Bailey and Mary Minter.
Joseph was in a military record on 9 September 1776 in Maryland.[1][2][3]
He married Hannah Newby on 9 August 1777 in Fauquier, Virginia.[4][5][6][7] Their children were:

In the name of God Amen I Joseph Bailey of Fauquier County, being weak in body but of sound mind, do make this my last will. To wit I give to my sons Washing and Henry the land now in their possession to be equally divided between two, so that each may have their present situation on said Land.
I also give to my son Washington negro Hardy and to my son Henry negro George, I give to my son Carr the land whereon I now live, Negro Jack, a sorrel horse about five year old which he calls his riding horse, one buffalo cow one pie eyed yearling ten head of sheep and a good bed and furniture. I give to my daughter Mary, wife of Samuel Tomlin negro Celia which said negro is intended to be alone for the use of her my last named child and her children forever,
I give to my daughter Matilda wife of Joseph T. Minters Negro ???? and Shadrick which said Manuel Shadrick which said negroes is intended to be alone for the use of her my last named child and her children forever, I give to my daughter Senah, negroes Jane and Peter, a good bed and furniture, a good cow and claf, and a bay colt now about five years old. I give to my daughter Sarah widow of Frances Gordon Senior negroes Lucy and Mary a good bed and furniture, a good cow and calf and a sorrel calf, about four years old.
I give to Mary Waddle daughter of my deceased daughter Malinda Waddle two hundred dollars which is now reserved in the hands of Mr Mc Nish C Cowles for that purpose. Negroes Gabriel, Hannah and Milly I wish sold on nine month credit and
the proceeds equally divided between my children, Washington, Henry, Carr, Matilda, Senah and Sarah, and the share of Matilda to be as before divided exclusively assured for the use of her and her children only All the balance of my property proceeds divided between seven living children Washington, Henry Carr, Mary,s Matilda, Senah and Sarah, and the shares of Mary and Matilda reserved to them only as before named.

At a court held for Fauquier County, on the 27th day of March 1826 proved by the oaths of the three witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded And on the motion of Washington Bailey and Henry Bailey, the executors therein named who mad oath thereby and together with Carr Bailey and Joseph T. Minter their securities entered into and acknowledged as the law direct. Certificate is granted them for obtaining probate therefor in due form. Teste Jno A. W. Smith Clerk[9]
