Elizabeth's origins are unknown. No sources tying Elizabeth _____ who married Clement King, and then Thomas Barnes have been found. Elizabeth Baker daughter of John Baker and Elizabeth Unknown Baker was baptized in 1633 in England, and traveled with them to New England. However, no further information for her has been found. Sources that show that John Baker's daugher, Elizabeth, who was born in 1633 had no further information after the family's arrival in New England: Ancestry of Priscilla Baker, Family of Zaccheus Gold of Topsfield, Pope's Pioneers of Massachusetts.
Sources that show Clement King's wife, Elizabeth's last name at birth was unknown include: King Genealogy... gives Clement's wife's name as Elizabeth _______; Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island gives her name as Elizabeth ______; New York Genealogical and Biographical Record gives her name as Elizabeth _______; Lineage book of the National Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America shows Elizabeth's last name as Unknown.
Only two sources have been found that show even the possibility that Clement King's wife's name was Baker: Torrey's New England Marriages before 1700 shows Clement's wife's name as Elizabeth [?Baker], referencing, among other sources, Tingley. Lastly, Raymon Meyers Tingley shows Elizabeth Baker, born about 1645, daughter of John Baker, as having married Clement King, but he provides no sources for that information. Furthermore, no births were found for Elizabeth Baker, daughter of John (or even without a father's name), anywhere in Massachusetts, between 1637 and 1650.
Elizabeth Baker's 2nd husband was Rev. Thomas Barnes, pastor of the 2nd Baptist church, at Swanzey, Mass. [2]
"BARNES, Rev. Thomas & Elizabeth (BAKER) ?KING, w Clement; 12 Nov 1694; Swansea {Tingley-Meyers 32; King (,3) 8; NYGBR 43:295 -- Elizabeth ____; Austin: GDRI 15, 117} "[3]
Her estate consisting of 112 L's 7Q and 10d; lands, wearing apparel, beds, wax, bay berry, cash, & etc. Administration was given to her eldest son, John King of Providence. Inventory of Estate was taken 27 DEC 1708 Swansea, Bristol, MA. [4]
Only one source has been found showing Elizabeth, wife of Clement King and Thomas Barnes, was the daughter of John Baker.[5]. This source is well known for its inaccuracies with respect to other families. Every other source other than Torrey which cites Tingley (refer to Disputed Origins section) showed Clement King's wife's last name was Unknown.
