Biography
Private Gilbert Baldwin served for Canada in the War of 1812 Service started: 4 Jun 1812 Unit(s): Capt. Samuel Hatt, of the 5th Lincoln Militia; Capt. William Applegarth’s 2nd Flank Company Service ended:
During the War of 1812, Gilbert Baldwin served as a private in the 2nd York Militia which was recruited in the area from the City of Oakville to the City of Burlington.
On June 4, 1812, he was selected at 18 years of age for service in Capt. William Applegarth’s 2nd Flank Company. [1]
On August 16, 1812, he served under Capt. Samuel Hatt, of the 5th Lincoln Militia, in a militia detachment at the capture of Fort Detroit. [2]
He served from August 24 to December 20, 1812 in Capt. Applegarth’s Flank Company. [3]
