Robert was born about 1753 in Ireland and is the son of Robert Barclay and Leah Madison. He moved to South Carolina with his father in 1769. With his first wife he had a son, George Washington Barkley Sr. (1799-1879), and an unnamed daughter. The other children are from a second marriage. [1]
He moved to Tennessee in 1802 and then to Marengo County, Alabama, where he died about 1848. He was one of the first settlers to cross the Tennessee River into the area. He was also one of the last surviving Revolutionary War soldiers in the area when he died.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.

It appears that Robert and Leah had a daughter in NC, went to Ireland had a son Robert 1753 and returned to NC where they were married 1760. Does anyone really believe this?
The only trouble is, the "duplicate" born in Ireland is the only one with a written biography. It is hard to throw it away. It is true that it has no sources, but neither do the other profiles.
Barclay-1049 and Barclay-175 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles should be merged because of relatives in common. The entire family is full of duplicates and they all need to merged to avoid mistakes. This one in particular has one of the profiles that is born in Ireland years after the other siblings were all born in America. Please merge these.
