Jackson Bare and Elisabeth M Clark are listed as the parents of Mary E Bear born on 7 August 1855 in Carter County, Kentucky.[1]
Mary Bare, age 5, born KY, was living with her grandparents. Henry and Derinah Bare, in the 1860 census for Carter County, Kentucky. Both of her parents had died by 1858. [2]
Mary Ellen Bare married William Taylor Jones about 1871. In 1880 the family resided at Martinsburg, Elliott County, Kentucky.[3]
An e-mail from Pat Wurts to Connie Graves received 7 August 2017. Pat's great grandmother was Mary Ellen Bare.
When my grandmother was applying for SS, she had to have someone go with her to swear they were there when she was born and that she was who she was, because there were no records of her birth either. That person was her brother John who was born in the 1870's. I do know she told me she was born in what I remember to be a place called Echo in Elliott County. It may have been something other than Echo and just sounded like it. I was a young girl in school then and I am now eighty, so it has been a while.
I know her name was Mary Ellen because my grandmother, Pearl Jones McBrayer and her brother, John Jones, both told me so. John had a daughter by that name also. Pearl was born in 1895 and told me her mother died before she was 4 or 5. Her brother John and his first wife, Jane McBrayer Fannin, raised her and also kept another of her sisters, Lulie, who died at a young age. This family is found in the 1900 census in Miner Kentucky. Mary Ellen was born in Carter County I believe, and I have Little Fork as the place, but Teri had it as Morgan County. I did find her birth in birth records in the county she was born in, but I'm not sure if it was Carter or another close county. I may have it written somewhere but my records are not what they should be. Pearl also told me her father Taylor Jones was dead before her mother but she could not remember him much at all, only that they both were dead by the time she was five. As I told you earlier, Teri Pettit gave me the names of the four daughters of Elizabeth and Henry Jackson Bare, but I'm pretty sure I had seen it elsewhere before she gave it to me. It used to be a lot easier to find information online than it is now. I remember looking a lot in Elliott, Carter, Morgan and getting information very easily.
I have nothing on Emily Bare except that she existed and her maternal grandparents raised her. I may not have any documentation of that. I have done much more research on my fathers family and on the Jones and McBrayer lines, as these were the ones I knew myself.
