Friedrich was born in 1808 in Elmshorn, Pinneberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Friederich Bargfleth and Abel Margaretha Böttger. He was married to Lucia and had several children. In 1847, he married Christine Magdalene Dohrmann and they had at least one child together.
