Biography

Richard Barlow was born in Lancashire, England.

Richard Barlow was born on 26 April 1814 in Manchester, Lancashire. He was the son of Samuel and Martha Barlow and was christened at St George, Manchester on 22 May 1814. ^[1]

In 1841 ^[2] he was a Lodger, living with the family of John Colbeck (who was also a witness at his marriage). They were living in North Street, Cheetham, Manchester and he was working as a Watchmaker. His wife to be Maria Collier was also living next door.

On 12 January 1842 Richard married Maria (Collier) Barlow at Manchester Cathederal. ^{[3] [4]}

In 1851 Richard is living in Manchester and is a Watch and Clock Maker. He and wife Maria have five children and are living at the shop in Great Ducie Street. ^[5] The family continued to live there in 1861, ^[6] 1871 ^[7] and 1881, ^[8] until Richard died in 1882 age 68, ^[9] and was buried at St. Luke, Cheetham on 18 May 1882. ^[10]

Probate was granted on 4 May 1883 to son John Edwin Barlow of 171 Great Ducie Street, Solicitor's Clerk. ^[12]

Research Notes Richard and Maria had 10 children not including Fanny (Barlow) Wright and as I am now not fully convinced that Fanny is their daughter, further research is ongoing on this family.
