Biography
After his death, the impoverished Mariah Farr petitioned the court to prosecute the estate of Henry Bernhardt for $500 owed to her. Mariah died shortly after and her heirs managed to get $50 out of the estate. [1]
In the same probate papers, there is reference to money owed to the estate of of Henry Bernhardt by Tobias Farr, apparently a loan made to him in 1860. What relation to Mariah above?
several other people were called to court to pay back loans made to them by Henry.
Note that Mariah Farr, age 33, was enumerated with Henry, 38, in the 1860 census.[2]
A previous version of this profile attached John H Barnhardt as son, probably due to the fact that John was executor of Henry's estate. But note that in these probate papers, John H. Bernhardt is only named as executor of Henry's estate, not heir. Given that he must have been an adult at the time of this probate, he was likely NOT the son of a man who died in his late 30s. In addition, Henry was single in 1850[3] and in 1860 censuses, indicating no evidence that he had children. The executor was more likely his brother John..
