Elizabeth was born August 11, 1881. She is the daughter of John Barry and Louisa Ketterer. Elizabeth Florence also had seven siblings.

Besides living in Des Moines, Iowa, she has also resided in St Louis, Missouri and Seattle, Washington. However in her senior years Elizabeth returned to her home town of Des Moines.
