Edward, you may be on to something. Through triangulation with distant family members I have determined I am a direct male line descendant of Samuel Bass (d.1789). I have also been found to be a Ydna match to descendants of Frederick Jordan. This may solve the mystery of how this came about.

I have for years thought we have dropped a generation in the Charles Bass line. I believe the Charles Bass who died in Southampton Co Va in 1780 was the son of Charles Bass born 1681, not the same person. In his 1780 will, Charles makes bequests to minor grandchildren. A man 99 years old is unlikely to have minor grandchildren. There was a Charles Bass living in Isle of Wight Co Va in 1701. In 1724 James Bass and Charles Bass, Jr patented adjoining land in Isle of Wight. Then both set about having children, indicating they were young men. In 1733 the are joined by Samuel Bass (d1789). Three young men with adjoining properties suggests brothers. Could these be sons of Charles Bass 1681, who was living in IofW in 1701? The naming pattern - Charles Jr., Samuel, James is identical to the sons of Richard a generation earlier, which Charles would be believed to replicate. Samuel named one of his sons Matthew, completing Richard's naming pattern. I firmly believe that the Charles Bass who died in 1780 was Charles Bass ,Jr., who patented land in IofW (which later became Southampton) in 1724 and was son of Charles b 1681.

Looking for information regarding Fredrick Jordan, James Jordan , and Mary Jordan.

They may have been adopted by Thomas Jordan of Brunswick as his son Drury is mentioned in a record with Fredrick.

Fredrick was later related to the family of James Smith thru marriage as his daughter married a son ( James Spann ) of his daughter Sarah Smith wife of John Spann

Mary Jordan may have married William Hunnicutt whose stepmother Leah Smith ( widow of William Killingsworth and 2nd wife of Augustine Hunnicutt ) was a sister of James. There biological father may have been a brother of Samuel named Fredrick Uriah Bass.
