Joseph Bates died young.

Biography

Joseph was born in Hingham on the 6th of May, 1714.^[1] He was the son of Joseph and Deborah (Clapp) Bates. He died the 3rd of November, 1714, at Hingham, MA. His birth & death are recorded on the same page of vital records at Hingham.^[2]

Unfortunately, the death record details for this Joseph were being applied to his grandfather, Joseph Bates. This left this Joseph wide open for co-opting. This Joseph was applied to a Joseph Bates who resided in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia, & who apparently died in 1747. There is no source for this 1747 date, however, 1747 is the year that Joseph Bates of Hingham wrote his Will.
