Biography

William Battles was born about 1806 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, United States.[1] (1808 per 1860 census[2]) He is believed to be the child of Samuel and Nancy Battles, but no source is identified here for this.

He moved to Alabama.

William Battles married Cynthia [Syntha] Thrasher on 8 Mar 1828 in St Clair County, Alabama.[3]

In the 1830 US census, William Battles 2nd was living in St Clair, Alabama. His household consisted of one male under 5, one male 5-9, one male 20-29 (himself, so born 1801-1810), two females under 5, one female 5-9 and one female 20-29.[4]

In the 1850 US census, William Battles (44) and Cynthia [Antha] Battles (45) were living in St Clair, Alabama, with children Amanda C (21), Elizabeth C (20), Averitta M (16), William F (14), Nancy (13), Isaac (12), Thomas (10), Mary (7) and Harvey B (6).[1]

In 1860, William Battles (52) and Cynthia Battles (55) were living in St Clair, with children Elizabeth C (28), Arintha M (26), Thomas (19), Mary (17) and Henry (15).[2]

He died after the 1860 US census (1 Jun 1860), date not known, probably in Alabama where he had been living.

He may have died on July 18, 1860, in St Clair County, Alabama, at the age of 54. [5]

Battles-397 and Battles-252 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, born same date and state, married same wife, died about same time given both are estimates. These are duplicate profiles and should be merged.
