Biography

Hannah (Beall) Deaver was a Marylander.

1687 Birth and Parentage

Fredrick Z. Saunders has established that Hannah Beall was a daughter of Col. Ninian Beall, Immigrant to Maryland based on property records involving inheritance. [1]

Hannah's name appears as both Hannah Beall and Hannah Bell. [2]

Her birth year appears variously as 1684 and 1687 in Calvert County, Maryland. [2]. Her birth would be no later than 1687, since that would make her only 15 when John Deaver was claiming her as his wife in 1702.

If she was in fact mother of the children named in her huband's will, with the dates shown, then she would have been born about 1660 or 1665 at the latest. Dating therefore must be considered unresolved.

The legal cases relating to property suggest that Deaver's motivations for some of his actions may have involved the desire to acquire Beall family property.

1702 Claimed Relationship with John Deaver

Hannah Beall married first John Deaver 12 July 1707, but was claimed as his wife by 1702 [3]

A tract named "Batchelors Choice" which had been surveyed in 1668 by Ninian Beall included a tract named "Wrighton", surveyed in 1659 for ishmael Wright. [4]

Vestry minutes from St. James Parish state that in 1702 "John Deaver who "claimed Hannah Beall, a daughter of Ninian as his wife, and afterwards marryed her" sold the tract "Wrighton." He had "prevailed on Hannah Beall under whom he set up his claim to said Land to acknowledge herself to be his wife, and as such Relinquished her right to said Land tho they were not man and Wife until 12 July 1707 upwards of five years after." [4]

1705 Witnessed will of Nicholas Day

In February 1704/5, before their legal marriage two years later, John Deaver and "Hannah his wife" acknowledged being witnesses to the 1704 will of Nicholas Day of Baltimore County. [3]

1707 Marriage of Hannah Beall and John Deavor

On 12 July1707 Hannah Beall and John Deaver were actually married. [1]
