Wilhelm Becker was born in Niederklein, Germany in 1826. He immigrated to the USA in 1851 on a ship named the "Minna". He was one of three brothers to immigrate to America. All three were stone masons by profession. (brothers John George Becker/Baker and Joseph Peter Becker/Baker).
His two brothers George and Joseph changed their last name to Baker after they immigrated. Wilhelm/William chose to keep the family name of Becker in the USA. There are a few records under the name of William Baker, but most records are under his natural/generational name of Becker.
USA Census records indicate that his wife Mary Euker was also born in Germany. William and Mary married in Cumberland in 1851. They had eight children between 1853 and 1869.
William passed away in 1870, at age 44. He was buried In: Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Cumberland, Allegany, Maryland.
The villiage of Niederklein was (is) stable/unmoving for centuries, but the world immediately around it was constantly changing during the lifetimes of this specific Becker Family. Niederklein was absorbed by three different states or countries from 1800-1835. Wilhelm's parents were born in Niederklein, Prussia. Six of his siblings were born in Niederklein, Westphalia, Confederation of the Rhine. Wilhelm and three of his siblings were born in the time of Niederklein, Hesse, German Confederation. I have chosen to present this information in this research note, and not adjust the familiy's ten profiles.
