-Awarded the SELECTIVE SERVICE MEDAL by Harry Truman after WWII. -John started his career as a school teacher at Prairie Point. He and Laura (school teacher also) moved to Point Blank in San Jacinto County and taught school there for several years. -They move to Shepherd, Texas where John became the superindentent of Shepherd schools. -John later owned and operated a business on the west side of the railroad tracks in Shepherd. This business (along with others) burned down in a fire that consumed most of the businesses in that location. -John then built a grocery and feed store at the corner of what became Hwy 59 and hwy 150 in Shepherd. He owned and operated this business until his death. -Mason/Past Master of Shepherd Lodge 866
