Biography

Silas was born in 1691. He was the son of Jonathan Belden and Mary (Wright) Belden. He passed away in 1741.

Birth [1]

While he remained in Wethersfield he was much employed in public affairs. Disposing of his property in Wethersfield, he removed to Canaan in the spring of 1741, where he had made purchase of large tracts of choice new land. He made like purchases also in Dutchess County, New York, and in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, proposing to make them the future establishments of his children. In the autumn of 1741 he returned to Wethersfield to settle up his affairs and remove his family to his new possessions. At the time a malignant Dysentery prevailed in Wethersfield. He was seized with it, and died.

Burial in September, 1741 was at the Wethersfield Village Cemetery in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut.

Note: Although some sources list death date in 1742, it is recorded in the Probate Records of Hartford District, as: "Invt. in Vol. XIV page 34-5-6-7-104...Court record page 98, 21 December 1741 Adms. granted to Abigail Belding, widow, who gave bonds, with Jonathan Belding of Wethersfield £600." Records also show that inventories of his personal estate were taken 23 September and 10 October 1741, suggesting he was deceased prior to those dates.
