Miles Bennett served in the United States Civil War.

Birth

Miles Bennett was born on 26 July 1816 in Gibson County, Indiana, USA to Armstead Bennett (1776-1860) and Faith Permelia (1784-1859).

He moved from Indiana to Texas in 1834 with his parents. He was the fourth of seven children and they all moved with the parents. His parents settled in what is now known as Houston County. The sons purchased land in what is now Anderson County.

Military Service

He served in the Army of Texas in 1836 from 1 June to 1 September during the Texas Revolution and the formation of the Republic of Texas. He was a Pvt. in the Battle of San Jacinto.

Miles enlisted and served as a Corporal in Captain B.F. Parks' Company, Hubbard's Battalion (5th Battalion, Texas Infantry). Hubbard's Battalion merged with the 22nd Infantry.

Miles also served in the Mexican War and a year in the Civil War.

Occupation

He was a very prosperous farmer as noted in the 1860 US Federal Census.

He married twice.

  1. Rachel Parker (1821-1843) on 4 August 1842 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas.
  2. Sara Laura Jordan on 29 May 1848 in Anderson County, Texas.

  1. Armstead Bennett was born on 18 December 1843 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA. Some say his name was Stephen Armstead Bennett, but that has not shown up on any record yet. He died as an infant.

  1. Levi Armstead Bennett was born in 1850 in Houston County, Texas, USA. He married Emma Conaway (1868-1884) on 18 or 21 December 1882 in Anderson County, Texas (County sources for both). Levi died on 7 December 1889.
  2. William Monroe Bennett was born c. 1854 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA. He married Georgia C. Watts (1859-1900) on 14 March 1878 at Elkhart, Anderson, Texas. William died c. 1899 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA.
  3. Cynthia Faith Bennett was born on 16 August 1856 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA. She married John Parker Jr. (1850-1917) on 15 January 1874 in Anderson County, Texas. Cynthia died on 17 May 1950 in Palestine, Anderson, Texas, USA.
  4. Richard Bennett was born on 30 September 1858 in Anderson County, Texas, USA. He married 1) Luanna Angie Gauntt (1861-1891) on 5 December 1878 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA and 2) Edna Gertrude Gressett (1870-1938) on 8 September 1895 in Anderson County, Texas. Richard died on 26 October 1943 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA.
  5. Permelia Melvina Bennett was born on 3 February 1861 in Anderson County, Texas, USA. She married George W. Franks (1852-1939) c. 1879. Permelia died on 30 January 1943 in Elkhart, Anderson, Texas, USA.

Death and Burial

Miles died on 28 November 1887 in Anderson County, Texas, USA at the age of 71.
