Martha Besson was born about 1662 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. She passed away 19 April 1722 (alternate date 19 October 1719) at Anne Arundel, Maryland. She was the daughter of Thomas Besson (1616-1677) and Hester 'Talbot' (1620-1692).
Nicholas Aldridge married Martha Besson, daughter of Thomas Besson, about 1679 [1] and they had eleven children, whose births were recorded at All Hallows Parish on South River. The parish records date back to 1 March, 1669. [2]
On 31 May 1680 the administration account of Besson's estate was filed. His total inventory came to 16,286 lbs. tobacco; payments came to 10,498 lbs of tobacco, leaving 500 lbs of tobacco to be distributed to his heirs. The account named Martha Aldridge, and will filed by the extx. Hester, "very aged" wife of Thomas Sutton.
In 1680, Martha's mother Hester asked for an allowance for a heiffer given as per will to Martha Aldridge and a mare called Nobsey.
Among the early settlers of Anne Arundel County, Maryland was Nicholas Aldridge, who acquired 300 acres of land called “Aldridge’s Beginning” on 20 August 1680. Nicholas and Martha had eleven children. [3][4]

(Archives of Maryland 51:155); Some Besson histories state that he was christened at St. Andrew’s, Plymouth, Devonshire, England. This is not correct and the data can be found in Barnes’ Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where it is printed “may” be Thomas Besson of Maryland.
