A brief time-line indicates the major events in the development of the plaaswerf:
1690: Meerrust/Eenzaamheid granted to Pieter Andriesz.
1702: Transfer refers to 'sekere wooninge en annexe landerijen' indicating the existence of residences and structures on the farm - possibly and probably sited at the current werf, but no longer existent.
1746: neighbouring farms combined and transferred to Jan de Villiers of Boschendal. Inventory describes an asymmetrical dwelling, now either demolished, or incorporated into the current U-plan homestead or an outbuilding [both unlikely].
1762: Transferred to his son, Jacob de Villiers.
1791: In turn, transferred to his son, Jan Stephanus de Villiers. It is possible that the U-plan homestead was built at this time: attic beams and ceilings, and some doors are from this period - or possibly built by the next owner in 1821. Records of 27 slaves on the farm, but no evidence of their living quarters.
1821: Farms acquired by H.P. Beyers. May have been responsible for construction of U-plan homestead.
1846: H.P. Beyers dies, son J.D. Beyers inherits. Homestead possibly 'Georgianised' at this time.
1896: H.E.V. Pickstone acquires the farms. It is possible that the Victorian elements at the opstal were added at this time.
1903: Gable Building constructed around this time, possibly on footprint of earlier building. This is may be contemporaneous with alterations to 'Baker' Cottage [now known to be the work of Kendall and Morris and more accurately referred to as the Kendall Cottage]. Other Kendall additions are the gateway and the elliptical timber picket fence in front of the homestead [since removed, and replaced with masonry, rectilinear 'werfmuur']
1990's: Lin Mehmel relocates entrance drive behind homestead; drainage ditch built obliquely across werf. [pers comm W. Pickstone, 2008]
1999: Farm purchased by F.W. Dauphin. Although the farm has retained its primary agricultural function, additional income is also generated by secondary functions such as the conference centre and restaurant.
