Biography

Ursin Bijeau, son of Augustin Bugeaud and Gertrude Anne Landry, was born on 1 January 1789 in Spanish Louisiana. He was baptized on 13 June 1789 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Attakapas Parish. Sponsors were Baptiste Prevot and Julie Ducrest. Father de Deva performed the ceremony.[1]

Ursin and Magdaleine Celeste Richard, widow of Anaclet Cormier and daughter of Victor Richard and Marie Magdeleine Brasseux, obtained a marriage license on 24 August 1814 in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.[2][3] They were married on 25 August 1814 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Witnesses were Louis Richard, Vital Estilete, Eloi Landry, Silvert Mouton, Cirille Richard, Jean Baptiste Richard, Marcel Patin, and Pierre Thibodeau. Father Michel Bernard Barriere presided.[4] Ursin and Magdaleine had four children:

  1. Azema Bijeau, b. 1815
  2. Ursin Bijeau, Jr., b. 1817
  3. Cyrille Bijeau, b. 1819
  4. Adelaide Pamella Bijeau, b. 1821

Magdaleine died around December 1846, leaving Ursin widowed at the age of 57 years.[5] Ursin died at age 60 on 24 January 1849, and was buried at St. Charles Borromeo Church cemetery in Grand Coteau, St. Landry Parish.[6]

His succession was filed at the Opelousas courthouse on 25 January 1849.[7]

Bijeau-3 and Bijeau-5 appear to represent the same person because: Slight difference in date of birth, same spouse. Thanks
