Biography

This profile is part of the Blanchard Name Study.

Abigail Blanchard was born in 1666[1] probably in Andover, the daughter of Samuel Blanchard[2] and Mary Sweetser.

She married John Stratton, the son of John Stratton and Elizabeth Traine, about 1688, probably in Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[3][4][5][6]

Abigail Stratton was named in her father's will as "Daughter Stratton", dated at Andover on 21 November 1704.[2]

On 24 March 1718/9, Abigail Stratton, widow, & John Stratton, weaver, both of Watertown, were granted administration on the estate of her late husband John Stratton of Watertown.[7]

On 11 April 1720, the widow, John, Jabez, Sam'l Mirick husband to Mary, John Stone husband to Abigail, all agreed to the "division of the estate made by commitee, and have set the widow's 1/3 & John 2/3 of the residue & Jabez 1/3 & they all agree to it."
On 11 Apr 1720, widow Abigail, the eldest son John of full age, Jabez a minor of 18 years of age his mother as guardian, Sam'l. Merrick husband to Mary, and John Stone husband to Abigail daughter of dec'd ... the two sons given bond to pay to their sisters their shares. The deceased having left another son named Ebenezar, "now surviving who had above his share ... by deed of gift of his father & released & quitclaimed his interest in the estate."[7]

Abigail Stratton died on 25 October 1732 in her 66th year in Watertown,[8][6] and was buried in the Old Arlington Cemetery, Watertown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA[6][1] A photo of her gravestone can be viewed at Find A Grave: Memorial #27177598.
