Biography

I am the only child of Lillian Philipson Blumberg and Abraham Charles Blumberg. Lillian was a bookkeeper in Utica, NY, at a large laundry before she gave birth to me. Abe taught art in the Utica, NY, school system and at Munson-Williams-Proctor. Abe died in May 1961. Lillian died much later. I would love to find out more about my mother's mother, Fanny Dubin Philipson, who was born in the US (in NYC, I think), and my mother's father, Hymen Philipson, who was born in Lithuania and who moved to Utica, NY, where he was a car dealer. Hymen died before I was born. I'm sure that Hymen's last name, when he came over from Lithuania, could not possibly have been "Philipson," but I have no idea what that last name was. Fanny's mother's name was Celia Dubin. I have no idea what her birth name was. Fanny had a brother who died, when he was very young, of diphtheria. I do not know Fanny's father's name or her brother's name.

Welcome back, Hazel. I hope you discover as much about your family as I have about mine over the years.

You joined long before we started sharing the How-to pages with members. It has some quick tips on working with both the Wiki pages and our other members.

Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I apologize if I've somehow violated any of the policies given on the How-to pages. I will read them as soon as I get a chance. I just learned what my mother's father's "real" last name was when he was in Lithuania, which was very exciting. I couldn't imagine that his original last name was "Philipson." I still, however, have no idea when he changed his name to, no doubt, "sound more American." I don't know how he ended up in Utica, NY. There are so many unknowns.
You have not done anything to violate any policies. I was just checking in with the members who had recently added their DNA. I wanted to make sure they had the Help Page to understand how it works on WikiTree. I noticed that you joined before we actually started providing the How-To's page. As a courtesy, I posted them for you in case they might have some information that would be of value to you.

I wish you luck on your ancestral journey. Remember that if you have some clues and are looking for information on someone you can always post in the G2G forum. There are always a lot of really great members there. They may have the answer that you are looking for or may be able to help you find it. Our members are pretty wonderful with helping one another.

If you have any questions just let me know. 🙂

How's everything going?

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hello and welcome to WikiTree!

The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? You will soon get an email from us that will have some great links to get you started on WikiTree. When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an option to volunteer to add new information to WikiTree. At that time you may also be asked to add tags to your profile. (Tags are surnames, locations, concepts, etc. that you'd like to track.) .Once you volunteer, myself or another one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.

Amber
