Biography

John was born about 1798. He was the son of Cornelius Bogard and Sarah Bogaert. He came to Ross County Ohio with his brothers and sisters from Randolph County, WV about 1800, Image 1. He passed away before 23 September 1830 intestate without wife or children. Image 2. His estate was used to support his nephew, Gasper Bogard, son of his brother, Gasper, who died in the War of 1812. Image 3. His estate settlement took place 23 Sept 1830. Image 4.

Given the lack of documents for John, research indicates that he may have been the youngest of the children born to Cornelius and Sarah Bogard of Randolph County, VA. The only document indicating that he was a child of Cornelius and Sarah is the Randolph County Court Minute Document of 1803 citing the heirs of Cornelius Bogard. Image 1. According to documents in Virginia and Ross County Ohio, it can be determined that his father, Cornelius, left Randolph County Virginia in 1799, making it a certainty that John was born prior to that.
