Biography

Elliott was born in 1711. He died in 1781 at the age of 69 per his Findagrave page.

More research needed - beware of dates...

Elliott was the son of Duncan Jr. and married Ann Walker, who died before 9/30/1801.

In his will, dated in 4/1781 and proved on 5/21/1781, Elliott Bohannon of Culpeper County referred to eight children but only identified six by name. He left 1/3 of his estate and three negroes to wife Ann; his home plantation and two negroes to son Ambrose; 50 pounds hard cash or the depreciation in paper money to daughters Mildred Gaines, Mary Herndon and Anne Kirtley; with the balance of his estate equally to eight children. Sons Ambrose, John and Elliott Bohannon were named executors. The will was witnessed by James Archer, William Kirtley and Julius Gibbs.

They were the parents of:

  1. Ambrose Bohannon, born c1736/40 because he was old enough to witness a deed in Culpeper County on 14 February 1764; married Mary Gibbs; and died before 25 January 1798 when his estate was administered.
  2. James Bohannon, born before 1742; married Frances Booten, daughter of William Booten and Judith Hill, c1766; and died 01 January 1807/08 in Stokes County, NC.
  3. John Bohannon, b. c1740; married (1) Mary Lewis c1766, (2) Ann Nunn, widow of George Nunn by 1788, (3) Sarah Garriott, sister of Moses Garriott by 1787; died c1806 (Will dated 10 November 1805, proved 23 August 1810).
  4. Mildred Bohannon, old enough to marry Robert Gaines, Sr. 1762; on Surry County, NC, census 1784/87 and Stokes County, NC, census 1790; resided in Sullivan County, TN on 14 July 1796 when deed made in Madison County, VA (Deed Book 2, page 317).
  5. Elliott Bohannon, Jr., born c1742/44; married (2) Mary Aylor, daughter of G. Henry Aylor and Anna Margaret Crigler of Madison County, VA, by 1780/81; died between 21 May-15 October 1824, aged over 80, Woodford County, KY.
  6. Anne Bohannon married William Kirtley, Jr., son of William and Sarah Kirtley, c1770; gave Power of Attorney in April 1803 before moving to Kentucky; had sons born in 1775 and 1775 who married daughters of brother Elliott in Woodford County, KY in 1798.
  7. Richard Bohannon, born 11 December 1748; married (1) Elizabeth Blackburn c1770, (2) Catherine Herndon 1789, (3) Deborah Pearce 21 June 1806 Shelby County, KY; died 1814/15 Jefferson County, KY (Will Book 2, page 19).
  8. Mary Bohannon, born before 1753 when received legacy from grandfather’s will; married William Herndon c1786 (born 26 January 1745 Orange County, VA, died 16 October 1828 Green County, KY.

Elliott Bohannon of St. Thomas Parish, Orange County, and his wife Ann made a deed to Joseph Rogers of St. Stephens Parish, King and Queen County, on 23 May 1745.

John Bohannon (1740-1806), son of Elliott Bohannon, was the father of Captain Thomas Bohannon who was born on 06 June 1767, married Frances Dickens on 14 October 1789 and died before 16 June 1818 when Frances acted as his executrix. John Bohannon made deeds to his son Thomas in Culpeper County on 12 October 1785 and 04 October 1787 with wife Sarah Bohannon participating in the second deed only.27 In her Madison County, Virginia, will, dated 20 April 1814 and proved on 22 August 1816, Sarah Garriott Bohannon appointed Thomas Bohannon as her executor and described him as her son-in-law. She referred to Anthony Bohannon as her grandson-in-law which indicates that Thomas and Anthony actually were step-son and step-grandson. She named her brother Moses Garriott in her will. Moses was security on the bond of Frances (Dickens) Bohannon, executrix of Thomas Bohannon, on 16 June 1818. Madison County was erected in 1793 from Culpeper County.29

Elliott Bohannon witnessed deeds in Orange County on 28 February 1739/40, 26 June 1740, 23/24 October 1740 and 24/25 June 1741.

Elliott Bohannon, planter of St. Thomas Parish, Orange County, bought 800 acres, on branches of Rapidan River in the Little Fork, from John and Ann Wisdom for 80 pounds, on 24 and 25 June 1741.
