Biography

Alice de Bohun, daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, Knt., and his wife Maud of Eu, married Roger de Toeni.[1] They had two children: Alice and Ralph. Alice, living in 1255 (when their son and heir was born), died before 1264 (when Roger died, leaving a widow named Isabel). Alice was buried in Llanthony Abbey outside Gloucester.[2]

Parentage

Alice de Bohun, "daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, Knt., Earl of Hereford and Essex, by his 1st wife, Maud, daughter of Raoul (or Ralph) d'Exoudun (or d'Issoudun), Count of Eu",[2] was born about 1238.[3]

Marriage

Roger de Tony, son of Ralph de Tony, Knt. and Pernel, daughter of Walter de Lacy, Knt. by Margaret, daughter of William de Brewes,[4] was born about 29 September 1235 (minor in 1251, came of age in 1256). Alice's maritagium included the manors of Newton Tony and East Coulston, Wiltshire. Roger and Alice de Bohun were married by agreement dated 30 June 1239.[2]

Issue

Roger and Alice had one son, Ralph, born 1255,[5] and one daughter, Alice.[2]

Death and Burial

1255, Alice (de Bohun) de Tony is living.[6] [2]
At her death Alice was buried in Llanthony Abbey outside Gloucester.[2] That would be Llanthony Secunda, a daughter cell of Llanthony Priory in the Black Mountains, Wales, founded about 1135.[7]
Roger de Tony married (2nd), after 1255, Isabel _____. Roger died "shortly before 12 May 1264"; that same year, "the inhabitants of Flamstead, Hertfordshire, complained to the king of the oppression of his widow Isabel...." Isabel was alive in 1270.[2]

Changed the marriage date from "about" to "after". They were "married by agreement dated 30 June 1239" (Richardson, Magna Carta Ancestry, IV:200 TONY 3) - when they were children.
