Biography

  • William's parentage is uncertain, Kerry Boren writes in his book that he is probably the son of Richard Boren. However possible that might be, there are no sources at this time (April 2019), that prove it. The two men could also have been related to each other in some other way, such as brothers or cousins.
  • For more information about possible earlier Borens, see, Richard Boren & John Boran.
  • It is unknown if William or his possible sibling John Boren were any relation to John Boring of Maryland.
  • If William I had any children other than William II, they are unknown.
  • William's and john's birth dates and William's death date are estimates by Kerry Ross Boren.

Land Patents

  • William received a land patent in 1666 for 1,000 an. [acres ?] of land in Stafford County, Virginia. This is roughly the same land that Richard Boren had patented in 1654 for transporting 20 persons into the colony. Kerry Boren in his book writes that William probably had to obtain a new patent on the land or risk loosing it due to Richard's escheatment or death.
  • William sells the Stafford, Virginia land in 1668 and removes himself to land that Kerry says Richard Boren had patented in Cecil County, Maryland (Boren's Forest).

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Rick, I see that you recently adopted the profile of John Boren and William Boren I.

I am part of a group of Boren descendants. Most of us trace directly to James Boren Sr. (1768-1826) and his wife, Nancy. Going up the tree from there, James Boren Sr.'s father was John B. Boren Sr. (1726-1821); then one generation up was James Boren (1706-1775), and then William Boren (1686-1768, born in North Carolina).

We're doing extensive research on this Boren family, and lots of us have DNA testing on Ancestry and on GEDmatch. We're trying to find more Boren descendants (especially male descendants) who either have done or would be willing to do DNA testing.

I would dearly love it if you--or indeed, anyone seeing this posting--would contact me so we could communicate further about mutual efforts to research the Boren family and flesh out details in its family tree. Thank you so very much.
