Biography

Israel was born in 1817, A man who fought 5 wars- died Aug. 23, 1895 Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas. 1) INDIAN RAIDS-came to Texas by Age 10 and fought against multiple Indian raids. 2) REPUBLIC OF TEXAS MILITIA 1836-1845 under William Edmondson Mounted Riflemen 1 Regt., 4 Brig., Texas Militia  [Sims' Regt., Dyer's Brig. 3) MEXICAN WAR Private in Capt. W.B. Dagley Company Texas Regiment, Colonel Bourland Commanded 4) LEE_PEACOCK FEUD 5) FIGHT with Sid Nance over his daughter, Malinda Harrington- Malinda was deaf, widow of John Harrington. Malinda was reportedly raped, inappropriate relationship and Israel killed the man with an axe, reportedly 76 years old. He is released on bail and charges were dismissed. Dies in 1895 leaving his estate to his daughter, Malinda. Spent some time in Rusk Penitentiary (East Texas Penitentiary), which existed near Rusk in Cherokee County from 1883 until 1917, was the state's second enclosed penitentiary for convicted felons. It was authorized by the Fourteenth Legislature in 1875 and built between 1877 and 1883. The state established it in order to relieve overcrowding in the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville and to employ convicts in the development of iron-ore resources in East Texas.

Malinda born 1840 married Jackson (Jack) Harrington. Jack Harrington fought for the Union during the Civil War, and shot and killed Henry Boren, (Israel’s brother) for his participation with Bob Lee who wanted to continue slavery after the war. Jack was killed, by all indications, by Richard "Dick" Boren, son of Henry Boren. Dick being his wife's, Melvina's cousin, and Henry, her uncle. Israel was brought into the Lee-Peacock feud to try and settle the feud by "putting the scare" into Bob Lee, but it was soon out of hand and Texas Rangers came and shot Bob Lee and Lewis Peacock. More than 200 people were killed in the feud. Israel was not convicted of any wrong doing, but PTSD and family events would come to a crescendo when his deaf daughter was raped.
