Henry Boss purchased 200 acres of his father's LAND GRANT on Four Mile Branch for ten pounds.

The family had probably been called O'Pogue in Ireland. I have had some stories of old Ireland and O'Pogue seemed to be a similar name. There are many Pogues in Newton and McDonald Counties and all that I know came from Ireland, The must have come to the USA in the late 1700's or early 1800's. There seemed to be settlements in TN. It was in Tennessee that a Pogue brother and sister married a Weems sister and brother, and there were a number of double cousins. The first Weems and Pogue familoies that came to SW MO. were related. One of the Pogues married a Mr. Christian that lived near Rocky Comfort. I am not certain if it was a sister, niece, or cousin of my grandfather, but some of his relatives. One of his sisters married a Harmon in McDonald Co.MO. She died in her younger years but left two or three children.

Book 26 page 902, Feb 27, 1819, Henry Boss ( A German and no wife signs) lets Noah Gallemore (both of Rowan Co., NC) have 187 acres on Four Mile Branch next the old line of Henry Boss, for $200.00. witnessed by Lewis and John Ward and proved by the letter in May 1822
