Hubert Fowler Bourne was the fifth child and first son of John Fowler Bourne and Mary Jackson. He was born on Brown Bank farm, near Croxden, Staffordshire on 10 May 1885.[1][2]
He worked on the family farms at both Brown Bank and later Croxden Abbey, in Staffordshire.[3][4][5]
On April 14 1914, Hubert married married Amy Smith (Steel(e)) formerly Grindey at Rocester parish church.[6][7] The couple set up their family home back at Brown Bank. Amy's son Albert Owen (from her first marriage) lived with them, and they were soon joined by Edna Mary born in January 1915.
More children soon came along; Cathleen Annie (1916), Harry Fowler (1917) and Ernest (1920). In about 1924 the family moved from Brown Bank to Brookside farm in the village of Rolleston on Dove, Staffordshire. There Dorothy and James made the family complete.
Sadly, in 1935, Dorothy passed away aged 12. She had been in weak health all her life. The Bourne's left Rolleston soon afterwards and began farming at Shellbrook, near Ashby de la Zouch.
Amy died, Hubert then married Maud.
He died in Burton on Trent Hospital on 10 October 1972.[8]
