Biography

Cecil Godfrey Bowden is born October 31, 1903 in or near Stroud, New South Wales, Australia, the son of John Robert Bowden (1864-1955) and Sarah Elizabeth Nix (1869-1943). Stroud is about 50 kilometres inland from Port Stephens.

In 1928 Cecil marries Ethel A. Scott (1907-1934) in Muswellbrook. Muswellbrook is 123 kilometres northwest of Newcastle.

They have one child:

  • Gloria Mae Bowden 1929<2015 + (1950) Arnold George Fishburn 1927-2015

Ethel dies in 1934 in Muswellbrook.

Cecil then marries Elsie Elizabeth Chivers (1915-1999) in 1937 in Scone. Scone is 30 kilometres north of Muswellbrook. They have four children:

  • Beverley Bowden 1938-? + Ian Ferguson
  • John Raymond Bowden 1942-2017 + Ann Gill 1946-?
  • Margaret Bowden 1944-? + Ian Affleck ?-?
  • Fay Bowden 1947-? + Richard Deas ?-?

Cecil dies on September 8, 1982 and is buried in the Dawson River (Taree) Lawn Cemetery. Elsie dies in 1999 and is buried with him.

Lyne district was to the east of New England covering such places as Port Macquarie.)
