Biography

1928 'Obituary', Cowra Free Press (NSW : 1911 - 1937), 28 February, p. 1. , viewed 03 Apr 2022, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article262031149 MR. AUGUSTUS BOWYER. There are many friends of the Cowra district who will deeply regret to hear of the death of Mr. Augustus ("Gus") Bowyer, which occurred at the Royal Hotel, Carcoar, on Thursday, after an illness extending over a lengthy period. The deceased, who was about 50 years of age, and a member of a well known and highly esteemed old family, was a native of Pretty Plains, and spent the early part of his life In and around the Spring Hill district, where at one time he was one of the district's prominent cricketers. In recent years he had followed hotelkeeping, in which avocation he had become a particularly popular "mine host" in Blayney, Millthorpe, Neville, Koorawatha, Stockinbingal, Ganmain and Carcoar, where he took over the Royal Hotel some time ago. Besides a sorrowing widow and four sons, he is survived by his aged mother, three brothers, and two sisters, viz., Messrs. Frederick (Orange), Harry (Stockinbingal) and Arthur (Forbes), Mrs. A. Taylor (Canterbury), and Mrs. C. Taylor (Cudal), who will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The remains were interred in the Carcoar cemetery.
