Military Service
During the Civil War, he trained as a Private in Company B of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry of the Union Army, the first regiment in the United States made up entirely of enlisted men of color. He likely enlisted in Pennsylvania.[1] He died on 23 March 1863 at the training camp in Readville, Massachusetts.
Wm. T. Boyd, of Pa., died this day (23d). He was in the hospital but two days. He was a member of Co. B.[2]
