Susanna Adams nee Boylston was the mother of John Adams, second president of the United States. She was grandmother of John Quincy Adams, the sixth president.

Susanna Boylston was born 05 March 1708, in Brookline, Massachusetts, daughter of Peter Boylston and Ann White. She was an early-American socialite, who came from a prominent family of scientists and medical doctors. She is among the least well known of the famous Adams family, for her name appears infrequently in the large body of Adams writings. ^[1]

Susanna Boylston married the senior John Adams on 23 November 1734, and had three children:

1. John Adams – Patriot, President, and Founding Father of the United States of America.
2. Peter Boylston Adams – A farmer and militia captain of Braintree, Massachusetts.
3. Elihu Adams – A company commander in the militia who died in the early days of the American Revolution.

Five years after the death of her first husband John Adams, Susanna married Lt. John Hall, who reportedly did not get along with her grown children.^[2]

Susanna Boylston Adams died 17 April 1797 at Quincy, Massachusetts, at the age of 89, during the first year of the presidency of her son John Adams. ^[1][3]
