Biography

Edwin Bramble is born on March 4, 1875 in New South Wales, Australia. The birth is registered in Port Stephens but the actual birth was probably on his parents’ farm on the lower Myall River. This is close to the town of Bungwahl which is north of Myall Lake and about 125 kilometres north of Newcastle. His parents are William Bramble (1840-1892) and Ann Priestley (1837-1897).

Edwin marries Bina Ann Gray (1883-1927) in 1905 in Newcastle.

Bina dies on July 31, 1927 at the age of 43. She dies in Raymond Terrace, just north of Newcastle, but is buried in Bungwahl where her parents are also buried.

Edwin lives on until about 1954. He dies in Auburn, a suburb of Sydney, and it is not known where he is buried.

There were no children from this marriage. However, Bina had a child the year before she was married -- Gladys Mary Gray (1904-1963) – and there is a possibility that Edwin is the father (see source note [5]).

Bina was born in c1883 in Bungwahl, NSW (Carba, Bungwahl, NSW). Her parents were Charles Gray (1850-1942) & Lillias Paterson (1860-1932). Bina dies in Raymond Terrace on July 31, 1927 at the age of 44. She is buried in the Bungwahl General Cemetery (General Portion row D 22). This source contains a picture of the gravestone: “In loving memory of / Bina Ann / beloved wife of / Edwin Bramble / died July 31, 1927 / aged 43 years” Edwin dies in c1954 at the age of 78 in Auburn, NSW.

[5] father of Gladys Mary Gray 1904-1963. The birth registration for Gladys identifies the mother as Bina Anna Gray but does not identify the father. Gladys marries Alfred Godwin and the death registration for Gladys Mary Godwin lists both her father and mother – Edward and Vina. This is likely supposed to be Edwin and Bina. This does not prove that Edwin was Gladys’ father – he was at the very least her step father so it might not come as a surprise that he (Edward as a mis-spelling of Edwin) is named on the death registration.
