Jessie or Jesse Bramble is born on June 23, 1867 in New South Wales, Australia. His parents are William Bramble (1840-1892) and Ann Priestley (1837-1897). The birth is registered in Port Stephens, although the actual birth was in or near Bungwahl where his parents live on a farm. Bungwahl is near Myall Lake, which is about 100 kilometres north of Newcastle. The birth registration shows the name as “Jessie,” although other sources --- birth registrations for his children, the registration for his second marriage and his obituary -- show the name as “Jesse.” Whatever the correct spelling it is understood he went through life using the name “Ted.”
On January 1, 1890 Jessie, Jesse or Ted marries Lucinda Bonney (1868-1906) in Stroud. They have four children:
Although the births of all children are registered in Stroud, the actual births occurred in Bulahdelah or Wootton. Bulahdelah is 39 kilometres to the east of Stroud and Wootton is next door to Buladelah on the north. (The actual birth place of three of the children is known from World War 2 military records.)
Ted is a farmer and a quarryman, according to one source. Another source indicates he first works in the bush –bullock driving and sawmilling – and then, in about 1897, he acquires land at Two-Mile Lake where he takes up farming. “[He] had a very fine garden and orchard on his property . . . and always founds ready market for his products around the Port Stephens and Myall Lakes districts.” Two-Mile Lake is just south of the town of Bulahdelah and, today, is within the Myall Lakes National Park.
Lucinda dies in 1906. On September 2, 1908 “Jesse,” as the marriage record shows, marries Caroline Louise Green (1866-1959) in Newcastle.
Jessie or Jesse or Ted dies on December 26, 1931 in Morisset which is 54 kilometres south of Newcastle. The death is registered in Wyong which is a bit further south. He had left the Myall Lake area to move to Morisset only a few months before his death. It is not known where Jessie or Jesse or Ted Bramble is buried.
