There are 2 spellings used of this name, Branan earlier and Brannon later. Some of his sources list his birthplace as VA and some as NC. Not sure I can find his mother. The History of Wilkinson county , page 464, states that "James and Sarah Tommey Branan, both natives of Virginia, and grandson of Kenyon Branan originally from Wales, moved ... to Wilkinson in 1810." Before Wilkinson, they were in Morgan County. That source is not consistently verified. The only reference to his mother is from family trees, and her recorded birth year is incorrect, or she is not his mother, since she would not have been 9 when he was born.
The Branans' 16 children are recorded in a family Bible from the Source: Historical collections of the Georgia chapters, Daughters of the American Revolution. The Bible was owned by Ms. Effie Cooper of Coopers, GA and is the final link below. I question the birth of the two oldest children, both my direct ancestors, and the age of Sarah --45 and 47, but there is no evidence to the contrary (her birth year on the gravestone could be wrong). Most of their children shared their longevity and were also prolific in producing many heirs.
The number of children (one, James, seems to have died very young) is supported by this later article in The Macon [GA] telegraph. This is in reference to child # 4, daughter Winifred:

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
Why wouldn't the fuller biography with actual sources appear first after a merge? I received a message from Ashton Carter that Branan-51 was merged into Branan-9 and edited, which is fine, but the more recent and research biography is now all the way at the bottom. Plus, even after the merge, there are duplicate children still. Does each child then also have to be merged? This is certainly cumbersome. Unless there is a different protocol, I would like to edit the first biography (which actually states that it is rough and needs editing) by replacing it with the second.
Branan-51 and Branan-9 appear to represent the same person because: This silly system does not allow merging when an unmerged match has been created without deleting the unmerged match and then recreating the merge further holding up the whole process for no good reason what soever. It is quite clear these are the same person and one should be able to override the unmerged match, especially since it says it is a match. Time wasting in the extreme.
Branan-9 and Branan-51 are not ready to be merged because: They ARE one and the same person but I think there parents should be merged first THEN we can finish this merge.
