Biography

Caron Brannan was born in 1687 in England or Ireland. He married Margaret Morgrave Bryan on 1718 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia He died June 4, 1750, in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia.

Richmond, VA; James b. 13 Oct 1720, N. Farnham Parish, Richmond, VA; Thomas b. 10 Apr 1723; and Caren Jr. b. 11 June 1726.
At age 12 came to America as a bond-servant to George Davenport. Pg. 87 of the 'Richmond County Orders' 1697-1699, he is in court to verify his age. Is judged to be about twelve years old and is ordered to serve his said Master or assigns according to Act. Other orders on this page are dated 7th June 1699. He is listed in this court order as Charon Brenhan, servant of George Davenport.

Dec 1-2, 1721 from Thomas Geffryes (Geffreys) of North Farnham Parish in R, to Caron (Carron) Brannon of same for 5000 pounds of tobacco, one tract of 52 acres in North Farnham Parish, and bounded by the land of Wm Elder, Robert Palmer, Wm Hanks. The tract is part of a dividend granted to Mr. Henry Wilson by patent dated Jun 15, 1664, containing 450 acres that the said Thomas Geffreys now has or may hereafter claim or now does claim. Feb 27, 1723 from Thomas Geffery of R to Thomas White of R, for 5000 pounds of tobacco, a parcel of land of about 70 acres on the south side of the Briery Swamp formerly belonging to [blank] Wilson adjoining the land of Mr. Thomas Griffin, bounded by William Elder, Caran Branan, Wm Hanck. Signed-Tho Geffery. Wit-William Maddocke, James (+his mark) Onell. Recorded Apr 1, 1724.
Some of the information on the descendants of Caran Brannon was sent to me by Sara Jane Chandler of Simpsonville, SC. She got it from the book DESCENDANTS OF JOHN WATSON I, 1752-1823.
Mr. Hank Shockley gave me a paper on which were listed Court Orders of Richmond County,VA., for the years 1697-1699. This is one section of that page:
"CHARON BRENHAN, Servant to George Davenport, being presented to this Court to have inspection into his age, is adjudged Twelve years old and ordered to serve his said Master or assigns according to Act. "
Additional information is from "The Registers of North Farnham Parish, 1663-1814, and Lunenberg Parish 1783-1800. Richmond Co., VA" compiled and published by George Harrison Sanford King, Fellow, American Society of Genealogiests, Fredericksburg, Va, 1966.
According to a genealogy written by Mr. Hank Shockley (from memory) the line is supposed to descend thusly:

do make my last Will and Testament and leave my Estate as
followeth:
First, I leave to my grandson James Brannon one gun and two cow
yearlings. And to my grandson Thomas Brannon one cow yearling
and to my grandson Caren Brannon one cow yearling. And my
saddle to my daughter, Catherine Brannon during her life and then
to her daughter, And all the remainder of my Estate and Debts I
leave to my son in law Thos. Brannon after my death. And I
leave my son Thomas Brannon to be my Executor.

Branham-522 and Brannan-41 appear to represent the same person because: Brannan is the correct spelling according to the christening records. These are definitely the same individual and need to be merged.
