Mary Ann Elizabeth Brasier or Brazier was born on October 20 1844 at 54 Lucas Street, Stepney, London. England.[1]She was the only child of Henry Brazier, a Master Mariner, and Mary Barker. Mary Ann Elizabeth was baptised at St. Georges in the East, Stepney on November 30 1844.[2]
Mary Ann married Thomas Reeves at All Saints, Mile End New Town on February 6 1861[3] and they lived at 10 Ely Place Mile End New Town. They had five children between 1861 and 1880. By 1871 they were living at Bromley by Bow with 4 children[4] and by 1881 they were living at 41 Grange Road, West Ham and Mary was working as a machinist- seamstress.[5].
Mary Ann is listed in the Kelly's Trade Directories from 1891 until 1901 as a boot and shoe maker. She was living at 84 Duckett Street, Stepney.[6]The last year she was listed was 1901 but she was listed on the electoral roll at the same address in 1902 (see image).
There is no listing for her in the Trade Directories after 1901
Mary Anne's husband Thomas died in 1890 and in the first quarter of 1902 she married her first cousin, Robert Church Brasier at St. Olaves, Southwark, both of them were widowed. [7]
Mary Ann died on December 28, 1918[8]and was buried in Queens Road cemetery, Walthamstow also known as Walthamstow Cemetery, on January 2, 1919. [9]
The Inscription on her grave reads:
In Loving Memory
of MARY ANN,
beloved wife of Robert Church Brasier,
who passed away December 28th 1918,
aged 74 years.
