Biography

Robert Breckenridge lived in Appalachia, in Virginia.

Robert Breckenridge, son of Alexander Breckenridge and Jane (Preston) Breckenridge, was born about 1720 in Ireland. [1] [2]

On 22 May 1740, his father, Alexander Breckenridge made oath that he had imported himself and John, George, Robert, Smith and Letitia Breckenridge from Ireland to Philadelphia, and from thence to VA, at his own charges.

Robert, while living in Augusta County, became prominent in the Indian Wars and was also Sheriff in 1755,

About 1752 or earlier, he married Mary Poage, and had two sons, Alexander and Robert. [1] [2] [3] She died about 1857.

After her early death, he married his 1st cousin Leticia Preston, daugher of John Preston of Staunton, and had fours sons and a daughter, William, John, James, Preston and Jane. [1] [2] [3]Note, Robert's mother, Jane (Preston) Breckenridge, and Letitia's father, John Preston, were siblings

He acquired large acreage on Buffalo (Tinker) Creek and was one of the area's largest hemp producers. He was a very wealthy man and built his home near Daleville, Virginia just to the rear of the present-day Boaz home. It will be remembered that Botetourt County's first Court was held in his home in 1770. He was one of Botetourt County's leading citizens at the time of his death in 1772."[4]

Col Robert Breckenridge died 15 September 1772 in Fincastle, Botetourt, Virginia. [5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Robert by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Robert:

IMHO, the Seldens of Virginia source provides enough corroboration to warrant the merge. A secondary source at best, but with attribution. Using the publishing date of 1911 it's probably possible to identify the James Breckenridge of St Louis who is the source of the information.

Breckenridge-413 and Breckenridge-37 appear to represent the same person because: These are definitely the same people and it's time to merge them. Please....it is confusing to have two duplicate profiles.

Breckenridge-37 and Breckinridge-79 are not ready to be merged because: These could represent the same person, but there's a lot of information that doesn't appear to match up well. I am unsure about approving the merge.
