The Gardiners of Narangansett , ref GN 27 shows Joseph Gardner (Joseph 3) b. 1671 or 1672 married to Hannah Briggs and as child of George Gardiner and Tabitha Teft.
The Gardiners of Narrangansett, Note 38a explains that it is probable that Hannah Briggs was married to Joseph 3 and not Joseph 4.
