Biography

Dirck Jorise Brinckerhoff is one of twins.
Dirck Jorise Brinckerhoff died young.

Twin of Hendrick. He apparently died in infancy. His name was given to a later son.

Joris Dericksen Brinckerhoff came to the New World in 1638 on a ship named Den Eichenboom, with his wife Susannah Dubbels, and 6-year-old son Abraham Jorisz Brinckerhoff. He settled on Staten Island, 1638 under contract with Cornelius Melyn, owner, and his brother-in-law; He moved to Long Island Aug 15, 1641, after a murderous Indian attack, which killed his son.

Dirck appears to have been born in Amsterdam, currently part of North Holland in the Netherlands.

Baptism

Dirck was baptized at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam on 25 Feb 1629. [1][2] His parents, present at his baptism, were Jores Dirxsz and Susanna Dubbels. Witnesses included Jan Dubbels and Anna? Dubbels.

Death

Killed by Indians.

Derick was born about 1628. He was the son of Joris Brinkerhoff and Susanna Dubbels. Derick, slain by the Indians. and left no issue.

Research Notes

Conflation? There are hints here that the child baptized in 1629 died, that a later child was given the name Dirck, and that this later child is the one who was killed in the encounter with natives in 1641. Sourcing is sketchy. Smith-62120 18:21, 27 March 2021 (UTC)
