Disputed Origins

A previous version of this profile claimed, without source, that he was son of Redbird and that Redbird was the same as someone named Aaron Brock [Sr]. There are no documented wife or children of Redbird. There is no record that associates him as the same man as Aaron Brock. He has been detached as father of this profile. Please use g2g to discuss evidence for his origins. Thank you.

A previous version of this profile also included a Cherokee nick name of Unalasgiunula for which there is no evidence.

There is also no reliable evidence that James BROCK was the son of Aaron Brock and Susannah Davis;[1] they have been detached as his parents.

Biography

James was born 25 AUG 1759 in VA or NC,[citation needed] and died SEP 1831 in Cumberland Co., KY.[citation needed]

He married first an unknown woman about 1781; she died BEF 1788.[citation needed]

He married second Mildred CRANE 1788. She was born 1758 in Granville Co., NC, and died 1834 in Cumberland Co., KY.[citation needed]

"James served as a Private with the North Carolina Line of the Army of the United States, 10th Regt. in Bradley's Co. He enlisted on 30 June 1779 in Halifax Co., NC, for a period of 18 months, but served 84 mos. (seven years) as Pvt., 10th Regt., Capt. Bradley's Co., Col. Abraham Shepherd's Regt., North Carolina Line, Revolutionary War, and received 640 ac of land for his service. The war ended in 1783, but apparently he served until August 1786. . . This register was prepared at Philadelphia on 28th July 1791."[citation needed]

Per ged match as well as dna consultants( Cherokee / Lumbee) i carry a large amount of native dna . This family line is one possible source please compare against my ged match number on matching chromosomes in paint so we can identify if this line is possibly native. I do also have strong lines to Patowmack/ Powhatan ancestors.
