Research Notes

WHO IS THE REAL FATHER OF JOSIAH BROCK 1809-1886, and the Unknown first wife of Andrew Brock 1788-1855 [see Ancestry ] Suggests Reuben did have a son Reuben.

Reuben Brock from sbrockbooker Posted Jun 19, 2015 by jeribrock1 Jeri,

Reuben(1754) did not have a son named Reuben. My father's DNA proved his line back to Heini Brack(1575) Switzerland. I can prove, without doubt, Rueben(1754)'s line since my gggrandfather sold the home place to a cousin after the death of his wife. He moved from Anderson Co. to Pickens Co. Anderson, Pickens and Oconee Cos. were part of the Pendleton District. My line is a long line of lazy Brock's. This is as far from home as we got, abt 40 miles. Reuben was the s/o Frederick Brock who died in Greenville Co in 1805-6. Frederick had a number of sons that I have tried to trace with the exception of Issac. He had so many children and may have been the f/o your Reuben(1784). But it could have been one of Frederick's other sons. Reuben and Elizabeth Camp Brock did have a son, William, that I have never been able to find anything about but he was born after 1784 I think. My line runs from Frederick-Reuben-Hayden-James Hamilton aka Jim-John A. Sr.-John A. Jr.-John Robert-me. My great aunt remembered going to Jim's funeral in 1904 on the train from Seneca to Anderson where he was buried beside his wife at Barker's Creek Baptist Church. His b-in-l, took her to see Reuben's homeplace which is still in the family and can be seen from Barker's Creek Church. Reuben's brother, Enos, is found in Tn in later yrs. He was married twice. He and his first wife had several children which she threw down a well. One son, Hayden, sometimes known as Hayden, Jr. survived and walked with a limp from the fall. He secondly married a Smith. They also had several children but I believe I only have the names of some of the children in the 1850 census. Enos moved around a lot and can be in Ms., Tn, and SC in various census'. I wonder if your Josiah could be one of his children. The 1810 date for Josiah would agree with Enos' second family. My Reuben's brother, George died childless and his estate in Greenville Co. list several children from another brother as heirs. The Frederick Brock book list a number of children in the wrong families. Reuben, s/o Issac, also lived in Anderson Co. less than 10 miles from my Reuben, his uncle. That may be the one that is listed as Reuben's son since he remained in Anderson Co and is found on deeds and in other records with his uncle and is sometimes listed as Reuben, Jr. when both are found together in records. This was just to show that there was more than one Reuben in the area at that time. His line is also well documented since he stayed in the area after Issac moved back to NC.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Reuben by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Reuben:
